A Date Has Been Set for the Election of the New Archbishop

The Holy Synod of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece met today; Thursday, September 10/23, 2010 in an extraordinary session after the repose of the ever-memorable Archbishop Chrysostomos II to discuss the date of the election of the new Archbishop.

His Eminence, Metropolitan Maximos of Thessalonica presided over the Synod as the locum tenens of the widowed Archepiscopal throne.

After the usual prayers the Synod met and decided the following:

  1. To meet in a new extraordinary session on Tuesday September 22nd/October 5th at 10:30 am. The sole item of discussion will be the election of the new Archbishop.
  2. The election will take place in the historic church of St Paraskeue in Athens (Dioskouri 6, Plaka), behind closed doors.
  3. The session will be proceeded by a hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by the most junior hierarch in precedence,; His Grace Bishop Theodosios of Bresthena.

The Holy Synod calls upon the clergy and the laity of the Church of the G.O.C. of Greece to supplicate the Lord for the reposed Archbishop Chrysostomos and the election of his new and worthy successor.
